This years' Annual Delegate Convention
was held at the Olympic Center in Lake
Placid.
This year Comptroller DiNapoli dropped
by to visit with the delegates.
In addition, Statewide Secretary, Barbara
Reeves, announced that this would be
her last convention, as she is retiring.
Whoever replaces Barbara has some
mighty big shoes to fill.
The classes were fun and informative
and covered such issues as Worker's
Comp and Social Security Benefits; the
2008 Presidential Election; navigating the
CSEA Website; Civil Service Law; the
Workplace Violence Prevention Act;
Effective Public Speaking; Engaging
Generation "Y"; Building an Activist
Network; and many, many more.
A night at the Tail 'O The Pup was an
extra special treat for those of us who
had never been. Not only did you get a
great barbecue dinner, but there was a
cool 3-piece jazz band and marshmallow
toasting. You know, some people didn't
know what a Smores was! And there
was a lively debate, around the fire pit, as
to the proper techniques used for
toasting marshmallows! There were
some slick entrepreneurs trying to
supplement their retirement fund by
'renting' marshmallow roasting sticks.
And to top everything off, our own Bonnie
Lawrence, first time attendee for the
Delegates Convention, won a prize for
the PEOPLE programs' 50/50 raffle.
President Donohue was happy to see a
'first-timer' take home some cash.
